  • Walk your dog ¼ mile
  • Eat 141 Oreo Cookies (that’s a world record)
  • Boil Water
  • Listen to “Love Shack” by the B-52’s in its entirety
  • Be completely sized up by a Hiring Manger

As you know, the entire hiring process from application to job offer can take some time – from weeks to months in some cases. From job search to resume updates, filling out forms and follow-ups to interviews and w-a-i-t-i-n-g for callbacks… the time may seem to drag on. Of all the time and energy you spend proving you are the right candidate for an open position, a simple face-to-face interview can propel you to the top of the heap or leave you out in the cold.

The interview can be one of the most crucial steps to your next job. A solid interview allows an employer to connect with you, determine if your resume skills match “the person” and decide if you are a good “fit” with the rest of their staff. According to several staffing professionals, they can learn all these factors in 5 minutes – or less!

Here are a few tips to keep in mind to prepare yourself for your upcoming job interview:

  • Be on time
  • Be neat
  • Turn off electronics
  • Bring an extra copy of your resume
  • Research the company & ask questions

Another helpful hint before your interview: PRACTICE! Ask a family member or a friend to role-play with you so you can work out some of your nervousness or ask yourself questions in the mirror. If your interview is online, make sure you’re your computer works, and you can log into whatever platform the employer is using. Check your background and make sure you don’t have any inappropriate filters set on your camera.
